- As far as possible, to tailor the objectives of the organisation and the individual employees to each other
- To better exploit the human resources available
- To create a working climate which prevents or reduces the risk of conflicts
- To create increased motivation and involvement at all levels of the organisation
- To work towards objective yardsticks regarding performance and development
- To identify the link between results and activities, and the link between the activity and competence
